From time to time, as a developer, you want a clean and fresh environment to do a demo, or to try out new features by registering a trial. Then one day you find out the registering process has changed. This post will help you through the steps.
Step 0: make sure you have signed out all microsoft account in the browser or you can use private browsing before registering. You may find the following URL as the first when googling “Dynamics CRM trial”
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics/free-crm-trial.aspx
Open the URL, and click the “Get Started” button.
Step 1: You’ll be redirected to the following page: https://trials.dynamics.com/
Scroll down a little and click the “Sign up here” link.
Step 2: A dialog pops up
Click “No, continue signing up” if you are not a Microsoft Partner or Microsoft Employee. If you are, you can click the “Sign in” button to try out the new experience.
Step 3: You’ll be redirected to a form where you need to fill in all the fields, and click Next
Step 4: Create your user ID. You’ll need to enter credentials to access to the new trial environment, then click “Create my account”
Step 5: Prove you’re not a robot. You need to enter your phone number to receive a code from Microsoft by an SMS text or a phone call and click the button
Step 6: Enter the code you receive, and click Next.
Step 7: Your environment will be created in a moment. Note down your environment info and click Set up
Step 8: Here you will be able to select language, “features” that you want to install to your environment, and the currency.
I normally select “All of these” so that I don’t have to go enable features that I want to try or work with. Sometimes it is quite complicated to enable a feature.
Then click “Complete Setup” button.
Note: if there is something wrong at this step and you need to close the browser or restart the computer, you won’t be able to continue to the Step 9 and won’t be able to access your environment. To continue setting up the environment, please go to step 8.1.
Step 9: Done. You’ll be redirected to the new environment.
Step 8.1: to continue setting up the environment, login to the portal page with the registered user at step 4. Click the Admin app.
Step 8.2: in the Office Admin Center page, click the Admin Centers tab > Dynamics 365
Step 8.3: in the Dynamics 365 Admin Center page, in the Instances tab, select your instance and click Setup in the right panel.
Trial periods
As far as I remember, you’ll have 30 days to use the trial environment with no restriction. After 30 days, you’ll receive notification email that the environment is about to expire, but you will still be able to access the trial environment for another 30 days.
After that, you won’t be able to access the environment but your data will still be available for another 30 days if you decide you purchase the product and keep using the environment.
That’s it. Hope it helps!
